The hive interactive light installation was designed for Luminale X, the Frankfurt light festival. Like a swarm of fire flies hovering over the pond behind the Alte Oper, the lights illuminated the heart of the city. The mesmerizing light and sound performance attracted viewers to interact with it via the platform.

Hive was built from 1600 LEDs individually controlled by
a self-organizing intelligent system – the swarm. It had various moods in stand-by mode and could reflect the behavior of the person interacting with it.

Hive was awarded the Design prize for Rheinland-Pfalz in 2011.

Hive was displayed at the Luminale X light show in 2010 in Frankfurt.
